FLAT BLACK WINDSHIELD FRAME? DEFINITELY NOT.

Windshields are a keystone aspect for every boat and frequently new boats are designed with the windshield arrangement in place first. When a boat builder develops a new model they’ve either got to choose from an existing array of windshields or spec something new. A new boat can be designed around a pre-existing windshield, which often happens. Doing that speeds up the process and mitigates cost and headaches. This is a preferred route for lots of builders. If going the new windshield route, the landing becomes the starting point and then rake, height, width, tumblehome and other dimensions are determined. Then extrusions are selected based upon a certain appeal and price. A metal finish is chosen in the process, usually a not-too-exciting black flavor or pedestrian silver, occasionally stainless. Typically, even a new windshield is a remix of elements from a pre-existing materials box from which to choose.

When we saw how the Komodo’s hull and deck style were coming together in such a radical and exciting fashion we realized that there’s no traditional windshield that would do the boat’s styling justice. We've got an awesome windshield partner who was also eager to do something different and cool. Starting from a clean sheet we worked together to develop a fresh concept that’s unique and totally high performance. Featuring flush glass fixtures, automotive curved glass and custom billet mounts, the Komodo sets a new standard for styling. Iconic badging and engravings push it over the top.

Thus the reason for sharing all of this today. We’ve selected a cool looking anthracite finish that’s a complimentary touch to the overall feel and look. The finish has a certain thickness that may occlude the engravings. So testing is underway to ensure that the right finish highlights the distinctive touches. Thus, what you’re looking at are sample engravings that will be finished and reviewed to confirm the proper engraving depths and contours.
